Defining Your Target

Author: Kurt Mortensen

Many people don't like the idea of goal setting; in fact, just the mere mention of the words makes them cringe. However, there is no doubt that goal setting works. The problem is most people aren't doing it the right way.

Goals must have the power to stretch and inspire, and they must be realistic in the mind of the person being persuaded. Research shows that goals dictate future performance. Conscious goals influence our overall performance. In one study, there was a large difference between asking someone to do their best and helping them set their goals or standard for their performance.

Goals must have the power to stretch and inspire, and they must be realistic in the mind of the person being persuaded. Research shows that goals dictate future performance. You must schedule time to visualize your goals everyday.

It is a general rule of thumb that greater or more difficult goals actually increase performance. The reason for this is that lofty goals set a higher expectation, and, as discussed already, expectations strongly influence behavior.

In a production plant, a group of workers with less experience were divided in two. One group was told to simply observe the experienced workers and try to be able to perform at a skilled level themselves within twelve weeks. The second group received specific weekly goals that were progressively more and more demanding. Needless to say, the second group fared much better.

Goals Should be

-Realistic and defined

-Exciting and meaningful

-Acted Upon

-Locked in your mind

Goals Require a What, When, How and Why
What?
-Define what you want to accomplish or achieve
When?

-When will you accomplish or achieve this goal?

-Date

-Time

-Location
How?

-Step by step, how are you going to accomplish this goal?

-Game Plan

-Books

-Courses

-Family

-Friends

Why?

-What are your reasons?

-Drive

-Desires

Conclusion
Persuasion is the missing puzzle piece that will crack the code to dramatically increase your income, improve your relationships, and help you get what you want, when you want, and win friends for life. Ask yourself how much money and income you have lost because of your inability to persuade and influence. Think about it. Sure youve seen some success, but think of the times you couldnt get it done. Has there ever been a time when you did not get your point across? Were you unable to convince someone to do something? Have you reached your full potential? Are you able to motivate yourself and others to achieve more and accomplish their goals? What about your relationships? Imagine being able to overcome objections before they happen, know what your prospect is thinking and feeling, feel more confident in your ability to persuade. Professional success, personal happiness, leadership potential, and income depend on the ability to persuade, influence, and motivate others.
